ISLAND SCENES

For the seventh season, 2026/2027,  the Galerie du Lendemain presents a series of solo shows.

The first solo show opening the season is dedicated to photography, with Gabriel Mrabi presenting Island Scenes, his first solo exhibition for Galerie du Lendemain, following two group shows: Mes nuits sont belles que vos jours (My Nights Are More Beautiful Than Your Days) in December 2024 and Ma saison préférée (My Favorite Season) in May 2025.

Island Scenes may, at first glance, be just another series of photographs on a subject that’s already almost overused: summer, a resort town somewhere isolated in the South, and “natives.” But the discerning eye will see beyond the sun-drenched appearances—here, they are never saccharine—or sometimes even raw, for it is a highly codified micro-society that Gabriel Mrabi went to study and photograph, like a modern-day ethnologist traveling to an exotic land to document a tribe still unknown to the general public.

Gabriel Mrabi’s offbeat perspective, with its touch of irony—even sarcasm—and its intimate closeness that renders the subject “human,” invites us to observe without judgment, to look directly at reality as it exists and as it is lived. It is a gaze that details the reality of a true world, without retouching or aesthetic bias, a world that we continue to protect, precious like a real, not artificial, paradise, still preserved from the chaotic life of the “other society” so close to it that surrounds it…
