If the world is an enigma, Katia Monaci introduces clues on her canvas. In her mysterious painted universe merges and responds elements of a divided cosmogony. Plants, animals, minerals, feeds phantasmagoric landscapes of a nature perceived as in a chaman’s dream or some other species’ eyes.
If nature is everywhere, human is at the very center of the artist’s practice, always carefully composing with both as parts of a totality. Throw her singular work within colors and matter, she makes this invisible cosmogony happening and responds visually to the symbolical lexicon she either invents or borrows as from tarology. Here, a predominant blue allows our emotional connection to this color. There, a scratched or partially covered figure contaminated by its environment inscribes itself in, or rather comes from, this painted universe.
Deeply instinctive, Katia Monaci’s painting never passes from a sketch to a canvas. Therefore, every single production : wether they are produced on a sketchbooks or on a canvas, represents itself a moment of this painted enigma.
